Children with Special Needs
From 2020 MEDS has been a supporting partner of a programme serving children with special needs and their families.
These families have come from the host and also displaced and refugee communities in the Kurdish region of North Iraq.
The MEDS supports the work of a centre for children with special needs in Erbil/Hawler, established and led by a ME charity.
The centre currently serves around 40 children from all backgrounds and with a range of disabilities and special needs including CP, autism and Downs Syndrome. Many of the families are struggling financially and so the centre does not charge families to attend but it welcomes contributions. CSSN has seen how even a very small contribution has encouraged commitment and regular attendance.
MEDS helps cover some of the monthly cost of the centre and helps facilitate visits and sets up placements of professional practitioners in the region.
